Senior Director of Engineering

Position Summary

This position will be responsible for leading Murata Power Solutions' Global Engineering organization across North America and Asia, providing both technical and organizational leadership throughout the full product development lifecycle. The Senior Director of Engineering will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams responsible for the design and development of innovative power conversion products while driving engineering excellence, operational execution, global alignment, and organizational growth.

Reporting to the CEO, the Senior Director of Engineering will play a key role in executing the company's engineering strategy, building a scalable engineering organization, and delivering innovative products that support Murata Power Solutions' growth objectives. This role requires a hands-on engineering leader with deep expertise in power electronics, a proven track record of bringing power conversion products to market, and significant experience leading and developing engineering teams.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Organizational Development and Drive

• Drive the annual Engineering business planning process and work closely with the executive leadership team to shape strategic engineering investments and organizational priorities.
• Lead and develop a high-performing global engineering organization by ensuring the appropriate talent, technical expertise, and organizational capabilities are in place across all design centers.
• Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) best practices and partner closely with Operations leadership to ensure the successful introduction of products into production.
• Drive continuous improvement by implementing Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) initiatives to achieve annual cost reduction and product optimization goals.

Leadership and Advisement

• Advise and partner with the CEO and executive leadership team on engineering strategy, organizational development, product innovation, and business priorities.
• Build strong relationships with key leaders across the company to enable effective communication, collaboration, and execution across global functions.
• Lead, mentor, and develop Engineering directors, managers, and technical leaders, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Ensure adequate engineering resources, technical expertise, and development tools are available to successfully execute product development from concept through full lifecycle support.

Engineering Management and Strategic Coordination

• Partner with Engineering leadership to define technical strategies, prioritize engineering investments, and allocate resources based on business value and market opportunity.
• Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams responsible for the development of industry-leading power conversion products across multiple global design centers.
• Drive consistent engineering processes, project planning, execution, resource sharing, design reviews, and product development governance across the organization.
• Develop and maintain engineering dashboards and key performance metrics to monitor project execution, quality, resource utilization, and organizational performance.

Customer Interface and Product Strategy

• Interface directly with customers to communicate technical information, development progress, and product capabilities.
• Partner with Product Management and Marketing to contribute to product roadmaps, technology strategies, and future product innovation.
• Provide technical leadership in evaluating new technologies, customer requirements, and market opportunities within the power conversion industry.

Other Responsibilities

• In-depth understanding of the complete product development lifecycle, including concept development, design, qualification, manufacturing transfer, sustaining engineering, and documentation.
• Strong technical expertise in power conversion and power supply design, including converter topologies, magnetics, control systems, EMI/EMC, thermal management, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
• Strong understanding of power supply qualification standards and global regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of power conversion markets including data center, telecom, industrial, medical, automotive, and renewable energy applications.
• Demonstrated success leading and developing engineering organizations, including coaching engineering managers and technical professionals.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and customer-facing leadership skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint.

Education

Experience Required

• Japanese language proficiency (written and spoken) is highly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required. Master's degree or Ph.D. in Power Electronics or a related field is preferred.
• Minimum of 15 years of experience in power electronics or power supply design and development.
• Minimum of 10 years of engineering leadership experience with direct responsibility for managing engineering teams and developing technical talent.
• Proven track record leading multidisciplinary engineering organizations responsible for developing and commercializing power conversion products.
• Experience managing multiple concurrent product development programs from concept through production.

Work Environment

This position is an on-site role, with 1 flex day per week of remote work.

Travel

Ability and willingness to travel globally up to 30% of the time to support business needs, collaborate with global teams, and attend meetings or other business-related activities as required.

Compensation Data

The salary range for this role is CAD $250,000/year - $300,000/year.

The salary range listed is based on market data and internal benchmarks. Actual compensation may vary depending on a candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications.
